Joanne Helman
Née en Grande Bretagne, Joanne Helman a étudié les beaux-arts et l'histoire de l'art à Kingston College, Londres. Par la suite, elle a travaillé comme marchande d'oeuvres d'art avec Ogilvy & Mather. En 1995, Helman et sa famille se sont installé à Toronto. Quatre ans plus tard, elle décida de poursuivre une carrière entant que peintre professionnelle. Elle retourna donc aux etudes, étudiant une variété de techniques et de styles.
Présentement, Helman se spécialise en natures mortes. Elle se préoccupe avec la simplicité des objets individuels. Pour la plus part, elle compose ses sujets en solitude afin de capturer leur essence, l'action de la lumière et des ombres.

Originally from London, England, Joanne Helman (b. 1968) studied art and art history at Kingston College, London. After graduating, she embarked on a career in the advertising industry, working as an art buyer with Ogilvy & Mather for eight years. By 1999, Helman had made Toronto, Ontario, her permanent home. It was also during this year that she committed herself to a professional career as an artist. Beginning with studies in mixed media, Helman proceeded to revitalize her artistic training by studying portraiture, figure drawing and oil painting.
Specializing in the still life genre, Helman focuses on the simplicity of individual objects. She often places her subjects in solitude to capture their essence, whilst exploring the play of light and shadows. The result is an expanding oeuvre delineated by a clean, disciplined palette and jewel-like subjects.
